Hey — Ryan To here.

In today’s edition we’ll be covering:

  • How Gen Z is killing Boomer Industries

  • 3 Trending Creators & their hidden content strategies

  • What you can learn from them (+ examples)

I don’t know who needs to hear this

But there’s a generational shift happening on social media…

‘Boomer’ industries are now being disrupted by Gen Z creators

I’m talking Brick-and-Mortar, Hospitality, Retail, and so much more

@chida.rajan is building a Luxury Wellness Retreat, @yohnmav is renovating a Bowling Alley, and @coryjweigel is opening up a Liquor Store

And they’re all making social media content like ‘creators’

Here’s why this is genius:

  1. Acquire customers with $0 on ads

  2. Access to traffic that ‘Boomer’ competitors don’t have

  3. Ability to scale their business through an engaged audience

It’s where the future of advertising is moving across every industry

This is their 3-part content strategy any creator and brand can learn from…

Create a Series

It creates buy-in, it’s repeatable, and most important it’s algorithm friendly

→ Viewer engages with 1 of your videos

→ Algorithm sends videos of that same format to that viewer (that’s the secret)

@yohnmav got 21.7M views on this video:

  • For New Audiences: It creates a curiosity gap around what he’s building - crafting a story that can’t easily be replicated

  • For Old Audiences: It creates familiarity allowing viewers to ‘tune in’ to see updates on his progress

Visual Curiosity

They all found a competitive edge around what they’re building….

Do you see it?

Answer: Visual Hooks

Check out this video by @chida.rajan that got 1.1M views

The first 3 seconds are attention-grabbing and create visual curiosity

While everyone else is filming in boring offices and bedrooms

They’re capturing attention by filming in places most people don’t usually see

‘Storytelling’ Framework

So we learned (1) why series based content works (2) the power of the visual hook

But there’s one important piece we’re missing: Storytelling

What the f*** is storytelling?

Let’s use @coryjweigel as an example on a video that got 331k views

Scripting Breakdown

Time-Based Hook + Question + Backstory + Turning Point + Cliffhanger

Two months ago, we bought this liquor store for $900,000

How did I afford all this?

The seller loaned me 150,000 bucks, which was super clutch, which I pay this amount every month. The down payment on this thing to the big bad bank was like $187,000, which I took out of my home equity line, and every month I paid this amount on that. The total bank loan is like $562,000, which I end up paying this amount every month. Damn.

Good thing people like to drink.

And we somehow got the entire building along with it, actually.

So, we should be able to make something happen in this 3,000 square foot space eventually.

The only problem with all this, PJ's Liquor Store still needs a major amount of love, man.

So, follow along to see if I'll ever really financially recover from this.

How it works:

  • Timeline: Anchor your story in time to immediately ground the audience

  • Relatability: Voice the exact question or thought your audience is already having

  • Reveal: Introduce an unexpected development that shifts the stakes and keeps attention

P.S. This is your reminder that good things take time (longer than you expect)
